So, here are some prayers for safety that parents can use about Halloween concerns.

Halloween is now a diverse celebration with a wide range of traditions and interpretations. It might be a day of harmless fun, a time to express creativity, and to engage the community. It might provide opportunities to talk about Christ the Victor and the devil as a defeated enemy. And for others, the association with the supernatural and the macabre may raise these concerns about potentially glorifying evil.

This holiday is a delicate one, so I encourage you to pray through the season. Here are my three big thoughts on such a conflicting holiday in the church community:

Whether you choose to celebrate Halloween or not, consider how you can leverage any opportunity to advance God’s Kingdom.

The main idea is to lay the foundation to help prepare kids to come to know Jesus.

There is not one perfect answer to how every family should navigate Halloween traditions and celebrations. Yet, there are a few boundaries we should put in place for how we approach this holiday and choose to best uphold these convictions while still creating memories in our homes.

If you love Halloween and have fun with it each year, keep teaching your children that all choices, representations, and attitudes should honor the Lord and fall in line with your convictions. If you're anti-Halloween, there is the obvious, but then there are also the elements of honoring and glorifying the Lord in how we respond to others' opinions with whom we may vehemently disagree.

We do not have any examples from Scripture that tell us how to celebrate October 31, but we do have guiding biblical principles to help us glorify God in our celebration. We can participate in Halloween in God-honoring ways.

Are all horror movies the work of the devil? Or can some even bring non-Christians to Christ? Let's look at the "avoid them all" and "watch some" arguments; and weigh what Scripture says.
