How to Pray for the Nations

In a time of great geopolitical unrest and spiritual confusion, the call to pray for nations is not a political gesture—it’s a kingdom responsibility. As believers, we are charged to intercede for kings and all in authority (1 Timothy 2:1–2), not merely for the sake of peace, but for the advance of the gospel in every land. Right now, three key regions demand our focused and fervent prayer: the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Praying for the United States

The spiritual state of our nation reflects moral erosion, division, and confusion. Isaiah 5:20 warns, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil…” Our laws, classrooms, and public discourse increasingly champion what God forbids. Yet we know from 2 Chronicles 7:14 that “If my people, who are called by my name, humble themselves and pray… I will heal their land.”

Pray:

  • For repentance and revival to begin in the Church.
  • For leaders with integrity, courage, and clarity of conscience.
  • For a holy dissatisfaction with sin, and a hunger for righteousness.
  • For truth to pierce propaganda and deception.

Praying for Israel

Scripture commands us to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6), not out of nationalism, but because of God’s covenantal purposes. Israel is not just a place on the map—it is central to God’s redemptive timeline. Yet today, she is under siege: surrounded by enemies, plagued with internal division, and carrying the weight of history.

Romans 11 reminds us that God is not finished with Israel: “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable” (v.29). We are not called to idolize the modern state, but to intercede for her spiritual restoration and salvation.

Pray:

  • For divine protection over Israeli civilians, especially children and hostages.
  • For the salvation of Jewish people through recognition of their Messiah.
  • For wisdom and righteousness in military response.
  • For global support not based in sentiment, but in truth and justice.

Praying for Iran

Iran is a complex nation—home to one of the fastest-growing underground Christian churches and yet ruled by a theocratic regime that funds terror and suppresses its people. Isaiah 45:5–6 says, “I am the Lord, and there is no other… that people may know… that there is none besides me.” Iran’s rulers may war against truth, but its people are hungry for it.

Pray:

  • For underground churches and brave believers risking their lives.
  • For regime change that brings liberty, justice, and spiritual openness. (This is not a political statement or advocacy of any decision. The people of Iran are oppressed under wicked rule. Pray for regime change in whatever manner the Lord wills, as He wills.)
  • For a mighty movement of dreams, visions, and conversions among the lost (Acts 2:17).
  • For Iran to bless Israel rather than curse her.

Prayer is not passive—it is spiritual warfare. When we pray, we align our hearts with heaven and push back the darkness. May we take our stand not with party or propaganda, but with the King of Kings, who rules the nations in righteousness and will return to judge them in truth (Revelation 19:11–16).

Above all, we ask that Your will be done. Give us wisdom and direction, give us eyes to see as You see. Amen.
